Privacy Policy: What We Collect, Keep and Never Do
This policy is written to be read. It covers what happens when you visit GreenlightMySite, read a guide or run one of the tools. The short version: no accounts, no cookies, no trackers, and very little data kept.
Who is responsible
The controller of the data described here is the publisher of GreenlightMySite, Stéphane Cardon. Questions, access requests and deletion requests go to hello@greenlightmysite.com.
When you read the site
There are no accounts and no sign-up. The site sets no cookies of its own and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, analytics or tracking pixels: fonts and images are served from this site. Like every web server, ours writes an access log for each request: the IP address, the time, the page requested, the response code and your browser’s user agent. We keep these logs for about 14 days, then they are deleted by automatic log rotation. We use them for security, for diagnosing errors, to enforce the rate limits on the tools, and, in aggregated form without IP addresses, for the studies we publish about crawlers and traffic. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure service.
When you run an audit
You give us a URL. Our server fetches a small sample of that site’s public pages, the same pages any search engine can read, and builds the report in memory. The result is kept in memory for about 30 minutes so your browser can display it, then it is discarded. We do not keep a database of audited sites, reports or scores. The ads.txt checker and the robots.txt tester work the same way, because they have to fetch your files from our server. The tools that run in your browser, such as the privacy policy generator and the snippet preview, process what you type on your own device and send nothing to us.
Cookies and advertising
This site sets no cookies today and shows no advertising.
If we later display advertising, including Google AdSense, this page will be updated before the first ad is shown, and we will add a consent mechanism for visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. At that point the usual disclosures will apply: third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites; Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and other sites on the Internet; and users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info.
Hosting and processors
The site is hosted by OVH SAS in France. OVH processes server data on our behalf. We do not sell data, share it for advertising or send it to any analytics or marketing service.
If you write to us
If you email us, we keep the conversation as long as it is useful to answer you, then delete it. We do not add you to any list.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask what data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use, and ask for a copy. Given how little we keep, the honest answer will usually be “your emails and, for a few days, a line in a server log”. Write to hello@greenlightmysite.com. If you are in the EU and are not satisfied with the answer, you can complain to your data protection authority, for example the CNIL in France.
Children
The site is written for adults who run websites and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the date at the top moves and the change is recorded in the changelog.
